Two Years from Fifty

Today is my 48th birthday. I don’t feel like I’m two years from 50. I’m not sure what I thought I would feel like at this age but I don’t feel any older. People are always saying “Happy Birthday! Do you feel any older?” I can honestly say no – I don’t feel any older. It does seem like as I get older that time goes by faster. It also feels like not too long ago I was playing with my brother and my cousin in the yard building forts and having dirt clod fights in the garden! These are pictures from my 6th birthday in 1966.

I know – these pictures look like they are 42 years old! I remember getting a doctors kit with a plastic stethoscope and tiny candy pills. My cousin Mike, my brother Herby, and two kids that lived down the road from us came to my “party”. I thought I was queen for the day! Mom always let us pick the kind of cake we wanted and what we wanted for supper on our birthday. I always wanted a yellow cake with chocolate icing, “homemade” Chef Boyardee Pizza from a pizza kit with ground beef on top, and potato chips. That is not very exciting today but I assure you – it was great in the 1960’s! Tonight we ate at Cracker Barrel. As I ate my turnip greens, country fried steak, and cornbread, I couldn’t help but think of all those birthdays my family suffered through pizza and chips!

Well, I'm barely getting my Happy Birthday wishes in before midnight! Hope it was a good one for you.

I know what you mean. I'll be 45 in October and though my body tells me I'll be that old, in my mind and in my spirit I really, honestly and truly don't feel that old.

And time really does seem to speed up and go by faster as I age! When I was younger and my older relatives would talk about time passing by more quickly as they aged, I just blew it off as one of those dumb things old people talked about. Turns out it was just another thing they ended up being right about! ;o)

Have a blessed Sunday, Lesa.

Love and hugs,

Diane

Hi there! I just wanted to tell you that I went to a Sunday School party Friday night, and Laura C. had made the crackers and bacon that she said you gave her the recipe for. I keep up with Rhea Ann's blog, and it took me a while to figure it out, but I finally connected that recipe with you! They were the BOMB!!! GREAT RECIPE! I hope your birthday was great too!! Thanks ya'll for the birthday wishes!
I did have a wonderful birthday! God has truly blessed me with 48 good years of life. I can't wait to see what the future holds!

Jerri - I'm glad you liked the bacon bites! They are so easy to make and even easier to eat! I am so lucky to work with Laura and Rhea Ann. I've "lurked" around your blog before and usually check it when I check Rhea Ann's. I love the name of your blog! Isn't it a small world? Thanks for the comment and come back soon!

I'm sorry I missed your birthday! Happy Birthday to you!

Those pictures are great, and it sounds like your birthdays were fun, too. I bet that pizza was a big deal then. I'll never forget when we first started buying frozen pizza. We never got to go out and eat pizza (unless it was with the church, which was rare,) so it was a really really big deal to have pizza at home! Maybe that is why I love it so much to this day. And I love Chef Boyardee pizza, too. :0)

Have you made copies of your pictures? I am SLOWLY trying to scan and make new copies of our older pictures, but boy, is it slow-going. I'd love to get them saved on a cd.
